Matthew D. Zelhart, M.D.

Profile:

Dr. Zelhart began his medical training at Rush University and Cook County Hospital in Chicago before moving to New Orleans for his Surgical Residency at Tulane University where he fell in love with the city.  He left briefly for colorectal training in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California.  There he worked on advanced endoscopy techniques such as EndoMucosal Resection (EMR) and Combined Endoscopic-Laparoscopic Surgery (CELS) for benign and early colorectal cancers under Dr. Sang Lee.   He also worked under Dr. Andreas Kaiser on complex Minimally Invasive Rectal Resections.  He is actively involved with the education of Tulane Surgery Residents and in research focusing on preventing surgical complications and in colorectal cancer in young patients.  In his spare times he enjoys indulging in the culinary gumbo pot that New Orleans offers, as well as traveling, running, and listening to live music.
